Michael is originally from Columbus, Ohio. Before becoming a yoga instructor, he worked in the publishing world as a graphic designer and art director for twenty years. The pressures of his corporate job left him stressed and stiff, so he decided to try a yoga class at his local gym and has been devoted to the practice ever since. After experimenting with various forms of yoga for ten years, Michael found it to be life-enhancing, both mentally as well as physically, and realized his desire to share his cultivated enthusiasm with others through teaching. His explorations of Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Power, Hatha, and more helped him develop a personal style that comes from a place of safety and centeredness and focuses on the breath in the present. When it comes to physical asana, he believes the harmonious flow of Vinyasa suits his energetic disposition well; it inspires him to create a marriage of breath and movement wherein he obtains satisfaction teaching his students in a manner that is most appropriate for their body, at that time, in that place. Michael has worked in a variety of settings, ranging from gyms and training studios to corporate offices and private residences. A life-long health enthusiast, he enjoys weight training and swimming in his spare time. He is also a member of the American Association of Drugless Practitioners (AADP) and recently completed the Nutritional Coach certification program at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, which partners with Purchase College of The State University of New York (SUNY).
